Permanent Full-time or Part-time, hours negotiable
Remuneration package up to $157,360 p.a. (f/t) + benefits
Join a highly skilled Acute Care Team at Townsville University Hospital, delivering responsive, high-quality mental health care when it’s needed most.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced occupational therapist to work at the frontline of acute mental health, providing triage, assessment and consultation liaison to consumers presenting via the Emergency Department.
Working as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will contribute your senior clinical expertise to support individuals in acute distress, while helping shape service responses across the Mental Health Service Group.
About the Opportunity
The Acute Care Team is a critical access point into mental health services, operating across hospital and community settings to deliver 24/7 care.
In this role, you will:
- Provide triage, risk assessment and crisis intervention for consumers presenting to the Emergency Department
- Deliver comprehensive psychosocial and functional assessments and care planning
- Offer consultation liaison to ED staff and inpatient teams
- Support clinical decision-making and safe disposition pathways
- Work across hospital and community interfaces, promoting continuity of care
- Contribute to a recovery-focused and person-centred model of care

What You’ll Need
- Qualification in Occupational Therapy
- Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA)
Desirable:
- Experience in mental health settings, with exposure to or interest in acute or emergency care
- Appointment as, or willingness to work towards, Authorised Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) status
