CommonSpirit Health is a nonprofit, Catholic health system dedicated to advancing health for all people. It was created in February 2019 by Catholic Health Initiatives and Dignity Health. With its national office in Chicago and a team of over 150,000 employees and 25,000 physicians and advanced practice clinicians, CommonSpirit operates more than 2,000 care sites from clinics and hospitals to home-based care and virtual care services. Our world needs compassion like never before. Our communities need caring and our families need protection. With our combined resources CommonSpirit is committed to building healthy communities, advocating for those who are poor and vulnerable, and innovating how and where healing can happen -- both inside our hospitals and out in the community.

Role Summary
As a member of the CommonSpirit Health (CSH) executive leadership team reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the COO provides both strategic and operations-related leadership. The COO ensures optimal operating effectiveness and strategic positioning for CommonSpirit Health and its local entities in a manner conducive to strategic alignment and collaboration between the system and its members. The leader promotes the widespread sharing of resources, best practices, and information throughout the system; builds upon 's historic hospital-centric orientation to identify and seize opportunities related to innovation, the development of a retail-driven ambulatory care strategy and other more contemporary business models, physician alignment, and patient safety. The COO will provide leadership in continuing to define and pursue activities designed to promote alignment between its entities and their respective physicians.

More specifically:

  • Executes business plan and evaluates progress against mutually agreed upon growth targets with respect to revenue and market share through sales forecasts and pipeline activities for the healthcare facility.
  • Provides guidance in anticipating and identifying market opportunities for growth. Supports the regional executives and local CEOs in their efforts in analyzing industry opportunities, branding and contracting strategies, and industry/market trends conducive to growth and diversification.
  • Provides leadership in the implementation of innovative physician alignment strategies which foster a commitment to clinical quality and patient safety, enhance customer satisfaction, and promote 's commitment to forging long- term partnerships with its physicians.
  • Works collaboratively with community leadership, other providers, physicians, and payors to establish beneficial and strategic relationships amongst and between groups.  Serves as an advocate and a spokesperson for CommonSpirit Health within diverse communities and stakeholder groups to include state and federal legislative and regulatory agencies.

We will be differentiated by:

  • Modeling a faith-based mission that calls us to provide more care for the vulnerable while working to ensure everyone has equitable opportunities to be healthy.
  • Being number 1 or 2 in terms of market share as the predominant primary care provider in each region.
  • Exceeding consumer expectations for access, experience, and personalization.
  • Train, attract, hire and retain the most talented, mission-driven healthcare workforce that is prepared for success in the future model of healthcare delivery.
  • Forward-looking clinical service lines that affordably deliver the highest quality, evidence-based care (i.e. digital care, telemedicine, post-acute care)
  • Advancing our clinically integrated network that delivers better outcomes at a lower cost through new and renewed partnerships and advocating for strategic investments. Accountable for accretive results.

Our Imperative for Change: We must be willing to be comfortable with the uncomfortable.

Our Organization has made significant strides since the announcement of our alignment in 2019. To fully meet our ambition, we must make purposeful change. Faster, More Effective Integration: There is more work to accomplish to allow CSH to come together as one integrated organization.

Support Our Mission: Create the optimal environment to enable us to support our communities in fulfillment of our mission.
