Position Summary
Posting Note:
This is an onsite full-time, salaried position. This position oversees Hematology, Coagulation, and Flow Cytometry sections at Thomas Campus and reports to Core Lab Manager. They work closely with section medical directors and lab leaders to ensure staff engagement, efficient daily operations, exceptional service, and full compliance with regulatory bodies. Responsibilities include personnel management, schedule, budget, QA/QC, equipment, non-conforming events, project management, as well as safety/regulatory compliance. Minimum requirements
Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science or related field
Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Technologist in Hematology (H) ASCP Certification or equivalent. Specialist in Hematology (SH) or eligible to obtain within one year of employment preferred
A minimum of 4 years of experience performing Hematology and Coagulation testing in clinical laboratory setting
Experience in new equipment/assay implementation, middleware/LIS validations, equipment management, training/competency, and quality assurance activities.
This position works collaboratively with section directors, managers, technical specialists, and leadership team to provide technical and personnel supervision for assigned staff to ensure high quality daily operations. Responsible to achieve and comply with established operating budget, quality control, inventory management and regulatory standards. This position receives supervision of completed work activities from Laboratory Manager or Director.
Position Duties
- Performs patient testing, quality control testing, and instrument maintenance procedures to ensure ongoing compliance with policies, regulations, and safety guidelines for safe work practices.
- Supervises daily technical operations of laboratory section by monitoring quality and effectiveness of work flow, problem resolution, trouble shooting issues, and processes to ensure optimum efficiency and compliance with all regulatory and licensing requirements.
- Supervises work activities of assigned staff to ensure achievement of established goals, objectives, and outcomes; provides guidance, mentors, and direction as appropriate for ongoing staff development.
- Develops and maintains policies and guidelines; employs policies and procedures, regulatory guidelines, and professional standards to validate current practice requirements and support of overall organizational values and mission.
- Participates in hospital and department operational and quality improvement initiatives; proactive evaluates systems, practices, and assists to create and implement changes to increase and enhance the effectiveness of the operations. Also, participates in organizational committees as pertinent.
- Ensures adherence to departmental operating and capital budgets.
- Maintains professional and technical competency through constantly pursuing knowledge and self-improvement and remaining apprised of current trends, developments and awareness of latest technology and practices to improve outcomes.
- Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
