JOB RESPONSIBILLITIES:
Conducts activity therapy sessions, displaying good theoretical knowledge of activity therapy principles/psychopathology and effective group therapy techniques. Conducts and adjusts therapies in accordance with patient diagnosis and needs. Implements a treatment plan of care for patients based on a thorough assessment of the patient's symptom presentation, professional/referral input and all other available data. Completes individualized and group therapies to ensure optimal outcomes. Provides resources and support for patients before, during, and after treatment.
Conducts therapy practice within defined standards of care. Displays thorough knowledge of available community therapeutic resources.
Conducts educational group sessions, displaying good theoretical knowledge of subject matter and effective communication skills in presenting material.
Participates as an active member of the interdisciplinary team. Communicates effectively with other professional and support staff to achieve positive patient outcomes. Engages in timely, efficient discharge planning. Works in close conjunction with patient family, nursing staff, social workers and attending physicians. Maintains professional interactions with peers, senior management, and staff through effective written and verbal communications. Actively measures patient performance and communicates results and trends to supervisor.
As directed, conducts individual psychotherapy, group therapy and family therapy sessions in accordance with state/regulatory standards. Displays sufficient theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and effective treatment techniques (under the guidance of a LCSW).
Provides ongoing education to patients and families as needed. As directed, conducts educational group sessions, displaying good theoretical knowledge of subject matter and effective communication skills in presenting material.
Attends unit and other JMH meetings as directed. Attends Referral Development Committee. Effectively participates in the referral development process.
Practices JMH and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Respects patient rights and organizational ethics. Ensures confidentiality of all information encountered.
Identifies areas needing improvement and utilizes the facility performance improvement process. Actively participates in departmental processes as requested. Provides feedback to supervisor on an ongoing basis regarding concerns, improvements, changes, etc.
Enhances professional growth and development of self and others through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, and workshops. Keeps up to date on professional literature.
Protects patients and employees by adhering to safety standards, infection-control policies and protocols. As needed, and using approved methods, assists in safely placing patients in seclusion
or restraints; observes suicide/seclusion precautions; including physical requirements for physical holds and safe transport of patients.
Completes progress notes and assessments according to program procedures.
Assists with ambulating and lifting patients as needed.
Completes and maintains SECURE Training.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Clearly communicates and continuously supports the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Health.
Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and Johnson Memorial Health policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Bachelor's degree in recreational therapy (therapeutic recreation) or related field and NCTRC certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist required. Current BLS or CPR for Healthcare Providers certification required.

8 hours a day, 5 days a week
