- Hospital Medicine Position Flexible Full-time Academic Career Opportunities

Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), a founding partner of the Mass General Brigham (MGB) Health System, seeks BC/BE Internists to join our academic focused Hospital Medicine Unit charged with the mission of providing patient care and teaching at MGH, including the training of Harvard Medical School students, to serve as attending in charge of care for patients referred to the inpatient medicine service, and provide direct care or work collaboratively on medicine teams with MGH IM residents, advanced practice providers, and student learners. Attendings work at our main hospital (MGH), rotate on several different clinical service lines, and can request time on the hospitalist procedure service, or on the triage service. Attendings are eligible for an academic appointment of Instructor at Harvard Medical School. Career development and ongoing learning opportunities are emphasized.
Multiple Positions Open:
- Practice setting: MGH Main Hospital Campus, Boston, MA
- Practice type: Large academic hospitalist group with over 220 staff.
- Role: Hospitalist / Nocturnist roles with career opportunities available.
- Positions: Full-time or part-time.

Career Development and learning opportunities:
- Didactics: Weekly day / night conferences dedicated exclusively to hospital medicine topics and updates.
- Quality and safety: Weekly conferences focused on ongoing quality and safety review in hospital medicine.
- Teaching: Educational time available on the resident and medical student teaching service, including the opportunity to work on the Bigelow co-attending model. Formal training to develop as a clinician educator.
- POCUS and procedures: Service time available for bedside ultrasound and procedures on the academic procedure service. Formal training to develop as a proceduralist.
- Clinical specialization: Service time working with sub-specialty services including Cardiology, Oncology, Transplant. Didactic sessions focused on sub-specialty knowledge.
- Careers in hospital medicine: Mentorship and training in career pathways including education, quality improvement, simulation, procedures, and hospital administration. Formal training available in all pathways.
Responsibilities include:
- Attending of record with admitting privileges at the largest quaternary transplant center in the region
- Provide direct care: Examine inpatients, analyze reports, tests, and studies, determine treatment plans, communicate with nurses, specialists, PCPs, families, arrange follow-up care, bill for services.
- Work collaboratively: Partner with MGH IM residents, advance practice providers, and student learners to make clinical decisions, expedite the care of complex medical patients, teach advanced medicine concepts.
- Service Citizenship: Attend monthly Hospital Medicine Unit conferences and business meetings.
- QI improvement: Participate in peer evaluation, practice-based and system-level quality improvement.
Requirements
Requirements include a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree or equivalent. Must have completed a three-year residency in Internal Medicine. Must be licensed by Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine. Must possess DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) certification from the Dept. of Justice, ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association, and CRS (Controlled Substance Registration) certification from the MA Dept. of Health. Must be certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, or eligible to become certified within one year of hire. Applicants must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
