Purpose of the role 

We are looking for a Clinical Director Mental Health & Alcohol & Other Drugs Services to facilitate the delivery of high-quality mental health care to patients of the Cairns and Hinterland Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs Service (MHAODS), includes Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service and Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service. The position includes dedicated hours to provide leadership, clinical governance and supervision of the MHAODS medical team.

Join a team of 30+ permanent local psychiatrists and 40 training registrars practicing in all subspecialties. We have unique and specific areas of mental health such as rural practice (generalist psychiatry) in the beautiful Cairns hinterland and remote outreach to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island communities in Cape York to practice cross-cultural psychiatry. 

Work in our amazing new facilities; $70million 53 bed Mental Health Unit opened in February 2025; new Adolescent Unit opening later in the year followed by a Mother Baby Unit.
