Description

With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Central Office, 2414 Bull Street, Columbia, SC 29201.

As the Cost Reporting Director (Accounting/Fiscal Manager II) at the South Carolina Department of Mental Health (SCDMH), you will direct and execute the agency's cost accounting operations, including cost reports, Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) reports, and specially assigned projects.


Responsibilities for the Cost Reporting Director

  • You will manage and execute the completion and submission of the agency's Medicare and Medicaid cost reports and Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) payments conforming with federal and state accounting principles and reporting standards.
  • You will analyze and evaluate DSH audits to provide additional justification and documentation supporting DSH payments to the agency.
  • You will analyze and evaluate cost report audits generated by external parties to develop agency's response with supporting data.
  • You will collaborate with Budget, Accounting, Reimbursement, Procurement, IT, and the Division of lnpatient Services (DIS) collecting data essential to complete cost accounting operations.
  • You will provide consultation in agency discussions with Medicare, Medicaid, DHHS, and CMS related to agency's cost accounting products.


MINIMUM AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor's degree with multiple accounting courses and professional experience directing professional accounting, auditing, banking, or finance employees.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of federal, state laws and regulations affecting institutional healthcare providers including at least five (5) years Medicare and Medicaid cost reporting and reimbursement experience in a related area such as accounting, auditing, or finance. Experience in applying Medicare/Medicaid principles of cost reimbursement, cost report preparation and audit, claims payment systems, and management reporting for all provider types such as hospitals, nursing homes, and community mental health centers.
