The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Vancouver Acute, invites applications for a full-time Clinical Laboratory Cytogeneticist position based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Vancouver is a beautiful city located on the shore of the Straight of Georgia, on the Canadian West Coast and benefits from temperate weather, allowing year-round outdoor activities.
Vancouver Acute is the largest tertiary care and teaching institution in Western Canada providing care for adult medical and surgical populations, supporting organ transplant services, the provincial leukemia/bone marrow transplant program, oncology services, complex cardiac surgery, reconstructive orthopedics, and is a regional trauma centre.
Position Responsibilities
Clinical responsibilities include shared coverage with triage, review, interpretation, reporting and expert consultation for adult constitutional and hematologic cancer specimens assessed using a range of cytogenetic and molecular genetic assays, including Optical Genome Mapping. The candidate will also contribute to laboratory accreditation, laboratory quality assurance, development and monitoring of assay protocols and administrative duties. Opportunity exists for cross-coverage in the genetics laboratories depending on the competencies and interests of the applicant.
The successful candidate will join a busy Cytogenomics Laboratory. With a clinical appointment at UBC in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine they will engage in departmental research and teaching programs, including undergraduate and graduate students as well as resident training. Furthermore, they will participate in administrative tasks, including committee work, collaboration in health authority initiatives and research.
Requirements
Qualifications
A PhD degree in genetics and certification or eligibility for certification in Cytogenetics, Genetics and Genome Diagnostics, or Dual Certification in Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics by the College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG) are required. Candidates with equivalent certification with the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) are also eligible.
Compensation
